The Roots of Tradition

David Strickland recalls those warm summer afternoons of his youth like they were yesterday working in his parent’s store with his two brothers.  David enjoyed watching people come and go through the store, always lingering a little longer than they had to, just to chat with the rest of the folks inside.

The store itself was an informal town meeting hall, busy with locals & out-of-towners alike. Everyone seemed to feel right at home there. David is convinced it was his mom’s warm smile and friendly greeting that made people feel so comfortable, but Glenda is convinced the reasons for their success ran much deeper than that.

As a mother of three boys, it goes without saying that she always had her hands full.  Glenda hoped to pass down the traditions of service and community pride that were so deeply invested in the store itself. It wasn’t long before David took notice of the way people were treated and served in their family’s store. It was as if they were all part of the Strickland family.

That was the way it was done there. It was tradition. And the tradition of service and pride was not something that was left in the store after closing time. It was something that remained with each member of the household no matter where they went or who they met. For David, it was quite apparent in his duties in the Navy. Throughout the two decades he spent traveling the globe, the lessons of his youth were always close at hand.

Back home in Murrells Inlet, Glenda and the rest of the Strickland family kept that spirited tradition alive. With her boys now grown and pursuing their own successes in life, Glenda looked for ways to pass those traditions of service and community pride on to others in the area. It seemed only fitting that she embark on a career in real estate, helping her neighbors, friends and newcomers to the area always feel right at home.

After retiring, David returned home, skilled in technology, longing to work in that same family environment the store had provided during his youth.  It wasn’t long before Glenda and David decided to take the tradition of service and meld it with the latest innovations, forming an unbeatable combination for success.
